My film received a NYFA grant!

I am beyond excited to announce that Eleanor of Illinois is a grant recipient from the inaugural cycle of the NYFA Made In NY Women’s Film Fund! I share this honor with the remarkably talented team who helped bring Eleanor to life. Many thanks to the mayor’s office and NYFA for supporting local women storytellers.

Monuments Of Paris

It took weeks of emails and phone calls, but I  *finally* have 2 panels of the Monuments of Paris wallpaper in my studio.

These are from the same batch used for the Met Museum’s William C. Williams parlor room. The panels are an exact replica of an American wallpaper produced in 1810, and I’m using them for a piece as part of my Bounty series. I’m super excited.

Many thanks to the Met Museum and my friend, the wonderful art historian Nikki Georgopulos, for much needed research help!

Platter Plans

This French serving tray belonged to my great Aunt Helda. It portrays Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. When I was a kid we used it to serve bread and matzoh at family gatherings- now I have plans to transform it into a political sculpture about Ivanka and Jared...stay tuned!

JUDY GOLD

My Bounty video series uses sound design, animation, and voice actors to insert Jewish content into classic film depictions of wealthy melodrama. Here, Bette Davis' character from Dark Victory, socialite Judith Traherne, becomes Judith Gold.

My Short Film Is Finished!

I’m thrilled to announce that Eleanor of Illinois, a short film I wrote and directed, is finished! The film stars Broadway legend Judy Kuhn and is my most ambitious piece to date. I’m applying to film festivals now and hope to show the film later this year- stay tuned!

Finishing Eleanor!

I am in the final stages of post-production on Eleanor of Illinois, my scripted, fine art video piece starring the insanely talented Judy Kuhn. This week I’m checking out fabric swatches for the dramatic, cinematic curtain that will frame the video. I can’t wait to install this piece in my studio!

Ackland Museum Annual Luncheon

I was honored to give a talk on my work at the annual luncheon thrown by the Ackland Museum a few weeks ago. This ballroom at the Carolina Inn made the whole afternoon feel so glamorous!

My Time at The Ackland Museum!

Just back from a wonderful few days at the Ackland Museum in Chapel Hill, NC. So exciting to see my work, Buddy, on display there and get to teach/give a talk to the Ackland Museum community.

Detail from my collage Buddy. My work can look painterly when photographed but my only materials are paper, tape, and glue.

I taught a workshop on my collage technique at the Ackland and the students made beautiful work! They each brought an image they wanted to remake using paper, tape, and glue.

Professional Portraits

I have a bunch of professional opportunities coming up (press, giving talks, etc) that require decent head shots of me, and the one I generally use is a selfie I took in my bathroom about 6 years ago.

Definitely time for an upgrade. So finally, this week, I got professional ones made with the fabulous/talented Mike Suber, and I am so happy with the results! You can check out Mike’s work at michaelsuberart.com.

Fine Art Ketubah

When 2 dear friends got married they asked me to make them a fine art ketubah and this is the result- hundreds of their words to/for each other, hand cut from a single piece of 30 foot long paper ribbon, signed at the wedding, and then fashioned around a piece of copper pipe. I loved making it so much I’m going to start taking ketubah commissions! Stay tuned...
